For the record, it costs around $130 to replace the power port in an
iBook at macUpgrades.  Alan guesses that the price is probably similar
at other authorized independent Apple resellers who do repairs.

This isn't pocket change, but it isn't $280 either.

Yes, but we replaced the motherboard in March. I don't want to put out anything more than the price of the part. Apple's charge isn't bad, nor is MacUpgrades, but combined with the mobo, it's way too much. I'll take the risk of doing it myself. Besides, I want a new MacBook! I'm waiting until after Sept 5th to see if there's a new Nano I can get free.

I'll call Alan about Cavan's wet iPod instead.
