If you are using a router try connecting directly to the modem. If
that works, you know it is a router issue. I spent many hours trying
to solve a similar situation. DNS lookup didn't work for the iMac
connected directly to the router, but worked flawlessly for the
ibooks connected by wireless. Switching port usually got things
working for a bit, but it was a firmware update that solved it. I was
a Dlink router.


We had a similar problem last week with a new notebook running Vista [couldn't connect to modem/Internet]. After updating the firmware on the modem, Vista found the modem and connected to the Internet, and has worked fine since then.

Unfortunately, the notebook running Windows XP stopped communicating with the modem after the firmware update. This only adds one problem on top of another. :-P

Good luck. Update the firmware anyway. You can find the software on the website for the modem manufacturer. Your ISP may also have the software.
