 Subject: [CGUYS] Buying First MAC

I am planning to purchase an iMac for my wife. I have only owned PC's
since jobs was in the garage, and have a few hardware questions.

1.looks like 2 memory slots. does std DDR2 SDRAM (PC2-5300 ) ram fit,
or is it something that is mac only?
1a. can I put a 2g in one slot and a 1g in the other and the machine
will be happy and run on 3g?

You can install up to 3GB of PC2-5300 SO-DIMMs.

The newest iMacs (aluminum case) have a newer Intel chipset that supports 4GB of RAM.

From <http://www.apple.com/imac/technology/storage.html>

Each iMac model comes with at least with 1GB of RAM in the form of a single SO-DIMM module in one of the two easily accessible memory slots, which means it¹s a breeze to add more memory as your needs change. The iMac can now accommodate up to 4GB of RAM ‹ perfect for people who do a lot of photo and video editing.

iMac uses one of the fastest memory technologies available ‹ 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM ‹ which ensures that the processor is constantly fed with data and enables you to get as much performance from your iMac as possible.
