I've been trying to figure out a way to easily/cheaply
annotate some 3D sketches of cars/planes. At work we
put stickers on these guys before we test them, we take
movies of them during the test and then analyze the
movies for the data we want. Right now, I've been
taking a big sheet of pre-printed numbers about an inch
tall cut into pieces (I know in advance what the numbers
will be), tape the number beside the sticker and then
use a simple point and shoot camera to take pictures of
the pieces of paper, stickers and test article. This
normal works just great, not so great if we have to
re-do a previous test. That test article may no longer
be, they certainly have removed our stickers one way or
another. Also some of our test articles are big and
don't really fit in the lens so swell so we can see the
inch high numbers (from 50 and 60 feet away).

I see that Sketch-up can import 3D models, but I don't
see a way to specify the X, Y, Z location of an
additional point.
