I also use Retrospect, on the advice of someone who swore he would be
around to maintain it and is, of course, now gone. I find it
un-intuitive, prone to errors that make it stop mid-backup, and
therefore unreliable. Backups are one thing that I have always had a
hard time "getting my head around." The incremental versus
differential versus multilevel incremental, and so on. But one thing
is sure, with retrospect I have never felt comfortable about having a
nice, safe backup. I will look into the ones mentioned in this
thread but for my husband's documents and email I am considering an
online backup to our local backup so that he can access a lost file
from overseas.
I am a little concerned, however, that these services back up only
the last 30 days. So that means that if you accidentally delete or
otherwise lose a document that you created 6 weeks ago, you have no
back up of it? Does anyone know which of these services is best? I
have heard that a lot of people use Mozy these days. Someone else
told me that Iron Mountain was more reliable than most others.
Thanks
