These were a snug pocket for watches on the right side of pants
just underneath the belt -- all men's pants had them until about
1955. My father reluctantly had to switch to a wristwatch when the
watch pocket was removed from pants.
Is THAT what that little pocket is for??? I always wondered! My
jeans still all have that pocket, and I've never found anything to
fit in it!
My pink iPod Nano fits perfectly in a jeans watch pocket. So does my
son's iPod shuffle. However, I usually use the pocket for change. I used
to have my grandfather's gold pocket watch on a chain, but it doesn't
fit in with the same pocket with the Nano.
Nano wins.
I have both lightweight and heavyweight multipocket safari pants with
special pockets for tools, phone, knife, hidden money pocket, whatever.
They even have double zippers on each leg to change to shorts. Good for
travel/hiking and sleeping in airports or other odd places. -- not
fashionable, except in hostels.
