Oh man, I'd heard that too, but was hoping it was just hearsay. Unfortunately,
the client insists on me using it. They've already paid for the licenses.
This is one of those cases where they're not going to change their minds.

Not stuck. Your Adobe Creative Suite comes with Bridge/Version Cue so you
have that "free" and tightly integrated with Photoshop.
For other purposes there is Gallery2. Free open source software with a
huge development comminity working on it.
I have found Portfolio to be a strangely dishonest product. A small part
of it is well done and used for demos. As soon as I got past that part of
the program I found that the rest of it did not work the same way. Quite
terrible!
