Looking at the list of "problem" vendors reinforces my point. IMHO none
of these companies are known for innovation. Serial ports, floppy disks,
command-and line interfaces are ridiculous and unproductive.

For example, when Apple came out with auto-sensing Ethernet, Cisco loudly
objected, saying they would never support it. These days it is rare to
see a cross-over switch or cross-over cable, but if those guys had their
way we would still be fussing with these unnecesssary complications.

Why do such hind bound vendors persist in the market place? It is because
Rip, the IT manager, doesn't push back and doesn't respond to innovation.

It is the same reason that HP still commands such a large share of the
printer market despite their producing some comically bad printers. Rip
remembers that many years ago HP made good printers.
