Found the latest drivers but that allowed the thing to be "seen" but did not
restore the monitoring function ...found on nokia website forum a guy who
explained and listed clearly all the files required to do that ...one was
missing ...fished it offa the cab from xp install and put it on ...voila,
fixed ...and for my 5 hours of work, avoided the DREADED REPAIR INSTALL OF
DEATH and the concomitant royal mess that creates usually ...I love google
but find it usually is worthwhile skipping down a few pages to where the
real meat is hidden...

I have an ActiSys ACT-IR4000US USB IR port that doesn't work anymore. I
have WinXPsp2 up to date and the latest drivers for the device (not the
native WinXP ones the manufacturer says will NOT work). WinXP device
manager showed a "bang" under hidden devices titled "IRDA Protocol" which I
uninstalled there. Upon reboot, no problem, but the IRDA device doesn't
show up as a port. I don't find ircomm.sys anywhere. Is there a fix for
this or do I hafta do a "repair install" of XP which is a pain and often
leads to other problems afterwards...??
