MS likely has learned that there are some problems, and is offering free support for IE7 so it can determine exactly what the problems are (and perhaps try to fix them). If too many folks have problems with a new product, word gets around and people stop using it, stop trying to use it. That's not good for MS.
Suppose your bank tells you that you must have IE7 in order to do on-line banking. And your response is, "I can't get IE7 to work. Can you (the bank) help me get it to work?" What does the bank do? MS might be listening to some bank(s). Before I move to a new piece of software, I want to know what features it provides that I really need. Most of the time the old software works just fine, and the new software doesn't provide the one or two features that I would really like to see to improve my work. The new features are designed to make the program "easier to use" by a neophyte computer user, but for someone who has already learned the old interface for the program, the new interface is just something requiring a lot of time to learn -- time that isn't productive.
