Nope it is just to keep room on the system (Their hour numbers are at
the lowest quality setting, so an 80 hour TIVo is really about 30 at
highest quality recording a lot like the old VHS tapes that were
advertised as 6 hour but really were 2 hour.) As you put more and
more programs on it, the retain time gets shorter and shorter.
I usually review my stuff, things I have not seen, I mark do not
delete until I tell you too, and then watch it when I get a chance
and if I want to keep it, retain it or transfer it to my PC.

That might do the trick, but I still wonder if the enforced deletion may
be a feature that is tied to using the programming service. Unlike, you I
find the programming service very useful.
