Today I had to fix that same thing with the Notes Email client. It was one of the preference settings and it had been pointing to a browser that was no longer installed. Looking at Thunderbird's settings I don'e see such an option. On the Mac setting the default browser in Safari's preferences actually has global impact. Perhaps that's the trick?
