ATT tried to do the same to me. I figured that I would be getting something
more reliable, but slower.  I opted to wait until FIOS was in the
neighborhood. It may be worthwhile to you to have the reliability over the
speed.

No, John, speed is everything! <g> Comcast has been reliable enough but slows down to a crawl when kids get home from school or over the weekends. It would be nice not to deal with that.
