Unless, of course, you also get OTA (Over-The-Air) programming through your DirecTV receiver (it has a coax port for an external antenna). Not clear whether the DirecTV receiver also will tune the external signal (like a VCR can). I've never used it, as the reason we have DirecTV is we can't get OTA programming.

Probably not a problem for most users.
