1) turn off your computer. The more you use it, the more
likely you will overwrite the files in the lost portions
2) Plug the hard drive into another computer. or boot from another
drive on the same computer. just don't boot from the 
drive that has your lost files on it.
3) Try a utility program such as Data Rescue II
to see if it can locate any lost files and find out 
if they can be salvaged.
