The Greenpeace story got a lot a Mac owners annoyed/upset, but it was a good thing anyway. I think that someone at Greenpeace said that they highlighted Apple because it was the company most likely to do something about it, but even if that weren't the reason, it made the issue public. Now most computer companies are doing something to make cleaner, safer hardware while the public is watching the results.

Trouble with Apple products is that they last "too long" so it's hard to justify replacing an old computer that does the job. Guess I have another excuse to get a new Mac, or at least to replace the CRT display [it will be recycled at CDM]. The One Laptop Per Child project has resulted in more efficient manufacturing methods with less toxic recycleable materials, and it appears to be making a difference in higher end machines.

Is it more environmentally friendly to use flash memory in a notebook than a hard drive? and to use PV cells for power?
