Are these automated? Can stories be selected and locations be added to a map using a script?

Another interesting Google maps mash up is CrimeReports.com

I'm impressed that it is so up to date. I see incidents from last week around my office in DC. Two robberies last week near gayley's place. Virginia reports no crimes at all.
