I was not clear. Many radio show websites have archives. I can listen
to these on my computer. I would like to download these older archived
files to an MP3 (or other portable digital) player.
From what I can tell one can only get a few recent programs from iTunes
and that iPods only work (well?) using iTunes.
QUESTION 1: Is that true?
QUESTION 2: Are there any combinations of software and hardware that one
can use to put old ARCHIVED programs on a PDP?

I have been told that iPods will not accept podcasts directly but from

in an iPod or similar devise?
I'm new to this technology.
You are getting your advice from a Zune salesman?
Podcasts are just mp3 files. Just drag them over and play 'em.
However, all this is easier if you do use iTunes and I don't know of any
reason to not use iTunes. In the Advanced menu there is a "Subscribe to
Podcast" item where you can enter the URL of any site from which you
would like to snag a podcast.
Easy.
