I bought my dual-boot MacBook Pro from a very bright guy, with decades of computer experience. I have always used third-party firewalls and anti-virus programs. He delivered the machine with only the MS Firewall enabled. He said he hasn't used an anti-virus program for years; that merely being prudent about suspicious emails is sufficient to protect yourself, and since he does backups, if worse came to worse, he could always do a system restore and reload of his data.
I have been using this computer, as delivered, for about two weeks. I'm planning on loading an anti-virus program, in the future. But, to your question: Since most of my experience has been on Windows, that's where I do most of my web-surfing. When I have more time, I plan on playing around on the Mac side.
