So there is no hardware difference?  Technically, can't you alter darwin
without any issues?

I haven't read anything that said Apple's case was any more then non
existent or weak at the most.  There are posts up all over the place about
what files need to be altered and how to do it, Apple has done nothing about
those.  Perhaps they can't.
