I think you could do this with subnet masking. I don't know if they make bridges that do this sort of thing anymore, but they used to.

My subnet masking ability has gone with the wind (haven't actually done one in about ten years), but what happens is that you have a set of addresses, xxx.yyy.zzz.aaa and the subnet mask on each of them would go 255.255.255.xxx on one subnet and 255.255.255.yyy on the other subnet. They could both use the same router as gateway, and maybe even share a server (where the printer might be). But they could also be completely discrete from one another.

Call someone who's done this more recently :-)

Subject: [CGUYS] Collocated "business support" (a la Kinko's, etc.) with an existing real estate office

I have an acquaintance who owns a real estate office in a small town in Pennsylvania. The spot is upscale vacation homes, and a lot of the residents/visitors want to use the facilities (Internet connection, printer, copier, scanner, fax, etc.) in the real estate office, as the nearest "Kinko's" is 35 miles away. My acquaintance is willing to do this, but needs to find a way for folks to connect (wireless) to the Internet and to the printer/scanner/copier, but without having any access to the business files /computers /servers of the real estate business. Is anyone aware of a ready-made solution to this?

There is one printer/copier/scanner/fax that needs to be used by both the real estate office personnel and the visitors.

If the printer// could be shared between two networks, then it presumably would work to have two networks on two separate DSL modems, or to cascade routers, with one router splitting a single DSL connection into two sides, with the real estate office network using a second router on one side and the visitor network using a third router on the other side.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I personally don't know any of the details of the setup that is in place, but could ask if it is necessary to develop an answer. A generic solution would be satisfactory.
