I'm not usually one of the flamers on this list but tonight I am so pissed
off I've got to rant.

<rant>

Last Friday I got an email solicitation from the new CompUSA offering a 4Gig
thumb drive for $13.99 which seemed like a pretty good deal to me. It was a
Memorial Day, limited time offer, so I acted. I clicked through ordering
the thing and it priced out at $24.99. Stupid me, I assumed there was a
rebate for the $11 but when it arrived there was no rebate form or card or
anything. I dialed into their 800 number and after a few minutes of IVR,
got switched prompted to hit "5" for the rebate department. My first clue
should have been the transfer to a no-longer-in-service customer service
line. I called back and kept punching 0 till I got a really unhelpful CS
guy. He informed me that the offer was for Memorial Day ONLY. Even though
they offered it on Friday, May 23, the $13.99 price didn't apply until
Monday, May 26. We argued a while and, since the same thumb drive is no on
sale for the $13.99, he offered to match their own price and give me a store
credit for the $11.

Now I'm stuck: I've got this $11 store credit and absolutely no desire to
redeem it.

I've done business in the dim and distant past with the new CompUSA mother
ship, TigerDirect, and been satisfied. But from this one experience I don't
think TD buying them has much improved on the CompUSA experience.

Sorry for bothering the list with my whining, especially if this sort of
experience has been cussed and discussed before. It's just that today I got
merchandise from Amazon, Newegg, CompUSA and Verizon Wireless and CompUSA
was the only one that left a bad taste in my mouth.
