Since I know Tony isn't a complete idiot, I was hoping he meant "BIOS" in the first post, instead of "OS".
Cleary, no OS will load (which means copying code into RAM to execute) without RAM. But also, some motherboards could run off the ROM (EEPROM, whatever) that the BIOS is in. I have had machines with errors detectable only by the beep codes, that would not go to the next step of loading the BIOS.
