Well, the real hardware overhead is in the graphics processors and the cpus. In gaming applications the entire machine is being pushed to the maximum. That is why geeks like me buy 1000 watt power supplies, multiple video cards and big displays. It makes sense if you are into the gaming thing. For a normal person it would be severe overkill. .
