I've found that most corporate management is inclined to devalue in-house programmers, and to assume that anything developed by the big players must be superior. I remember, decades ago, informing my department head that I'd fixed an error in a commonly used routine that had been supplied by IBM. I was completely unprepared for his reaction: He blew up, and berated me for having the audacity to suggest I was capable of finding an error in code written by IBM.
