I went to Europe recently and I took a portable hand control to drive there.
The control has been sold for over 20 years and has never failed according
to the maker. It is a VERY simple device made of strong structural
elements. It was in a good bag inside another good bag. I alerted the
check-in attendant the bag contained an "assistive device" that comprises
several long metal tubes. The TSA managed to break it. They even stuck a
card in the bag saying they "didn't" break it. Surely everyone at the TSA
is not that ridiculous, but it sure took a gorilla to break this thing which
is, after all, made to withstand quite a lot of punishment inasmuch as it is
used to drive a vehicle. What a shame; the maker says they have NEVER had
any such thing happen before and promptly shipped me a replacement albeit
too late for my trip needs. I hope there's someone else at the TSA looking
out for my safety, let alone my stuff !!
