Dunno about this instance but on a several years old machine with an ATI Rage Fury Pro 128 (or some such), every time I boot the machine, I get an error message "Failed to open registry entry in ATI poll!" That Msg Box dismisses itself automatically after several seconds (so I don't/won't see it at all if I'm not monitoring the boot process). I've just lived with it forever since day 1. I'd probably mess up several things in trying to troubleshoot, and the machine seems to generally work OK, so I just leave it alone.
