Plextor is a brand name of Shinano Kenshi. They are a Japanese servomotor manufacturer that among other applications supplies hard dirve motors. Plextor is the brand of their electronic equipment division. They have a reputation for quality and reliability at a higher than average price. It is no longer clear if Plextors are actually Plextors. Reports suggest that the name has gone on LGs. Sonys, and TEACs. I do run an older Plextor that is noisy enough to be a TEAC but it has never failed to read or write a disc. I also have a cheap Sony DVD that has never failed over the same time period and is much quieter.
