Windows had cached information (you can see this in Explorer when you go to "My Network Places" and it shows you recently or often accessed network shares) that got corrupted. I would unmap the drive and reboot, then remap and try again. If more drastic action is needed, you will have to search through the Registry and remove all references to the shared drive, like recently accessed documents, my network places, etc. Then reboot and try again.
