You should be fine with your MP3's. Just keep them as MP3s. The only things that gets bad DRM are most purchases from the iTunes store. Buy either the non DRM iTunes or other non DRMed vendors like Amazon.com.
Accepting DRM was the only way apple was to get vendors to allow them to sell. Now iTunes is the biggest music vendor in the US and has the music industry worried.
