I used iTunes to convert the.mov file to .m4v file. Since it wasn't a DRM copyrighted/protected file, I was then able to change the .m4v to .mp4. It was rather simple.

My question is: Do I have to do this in order to make a DVD that will play on my TV's DVD player or could I just stop at .m4v? As I understand it .m4v is how Apple makes sure that the DRM copyright is enforced and only played on "authorized" machines.

Actually, .mov could already be an .mp4 file, since .mov is a container format.

Anyway, you should post your solution for the archives.
