A nice server fully tricked out and running a rock-solid Unix OS is going to cost you $300-$400. What did your RAID and necessary spares cost you? Running a variety of OSs also protects you from a successful virus attack. A few years ago I saw several organizations shut down their servers for several days to stop such an attack.
