At one of my jobs (videography) the blog is like free advertising.
Keep the content fresh, and new potential clients will find it, and
become familiar with you even before they call. A single person is
mostly responsible for this content, and it's separate from the
company website.

The only blog I maintain myself informs my forum users of updates and
policy issues. But every now and then I throw in a personal thought or
two.
