I think if you examine the log, you may find out that the connection is timing out during the authentication process. The response by your email program to this event is to assume that the password given was incorrect. I've noticed that Comcast's email server has been unresponsive lately. But if I just keep trying to check mail, it eventually works. Not ideal.

So true, John. It's happened to me several times since I sent the original post and I"m gradually shifting everything over to my gmail or mac accounts.
