I bought a "broken" Motorola m25 player on eBay for $5.00. It plays mp3, wav, wma with ID3 tags, and audible.com downloads as well as podcasts. It has Microsoft DRM code support. It plays VBR files. It recives and records FM radio over the air. It takes one AAA battery for 17 hours of continuous play. It supports and monitors NiMH rechargeable batteries. It has 256mb internal memory and supports SD/MMC cards (they claim 1gb, mine has a 2gb card in it and I have slipped in a 6gb SDHC card which was recognized). It is designed after the Diamond Rio. I got the non-working one, hooked it up to the USB2-miniUSB cord (the one from my fone), went on the Motorola website and downloaded the free firmware update, and installed it on the player with which it is working perfectly. This thing weighs less than a pack of gum. I love it! It had an armband/holder with it. I threw away the sickly earbuds and it puts out great sound with some descent headgear. I have no complaints for my money! They also make a m100 that has a 6gb HDD in it and rechargeable battery. It's a little bigger (size of pack of lucky strike no filters) and heavier (2x that of the m25) ...otherwise the same. I have one of those too!

When I look at Amazon's list of best selling MP3 players, the first 15 are iPods. The Zune is 16. I see many sites now list this category as "iPods & MP3 Players." That says a lot. If I wanted something that included a radio I think I would get the Coby (for $43) or a Sansa Fuse ($60) or a Zen Stone Plus ($45). The equivalent Zunes cost a lot more than those ($98 at Amazon). So the Zune just doesn't make sense. I have not seen any $80 hard drive Zunes like the ones mentioned by Roughly Drafted. Would I get one of those at that price? Probably not, because my hard drive iPod is still working and I just swapped out its hard drive for a larger one. ************************************************************************* ** List info, subscription management, list rules, archives, privacy ** ** policy, calmness, a member map, and more at http://www.cguys.org/ ** *************************************************************************
