Hello all: I just had a great experience at the Columbia Apple store. After waiting three months to get a new hard drive, and grumbling all the way through, I finally used some Christmas budget to replace the hard drive that came with my refurbished MacBook. I purchased it from Newegg and the shipping exceeded Amazon's services. The new hard drive was not too difficult to re-install after looking at a couple of YouTube videos and buying a Torx #8 six point star screwdriver. But once I re-installed the hard drive, partitioned it (for future Windows use) and tried to install the software that came with my machine in the first place, I got an error message that said, "This software cannot be installed on this computer". Needless to say, I was disappointed and almost ready to give up on Apple altogether. But I was able to make a Genius Bar appointment in Columbia, MD and they helped me instantly. It turns out that the wrong software was originally shipped--to get me going again, they re-installed 10.4 for me. However, I will have to call Apple and get them to send me the correct disks for software backup.
They also said that they would take care of an unsightly crack on the keyboard surface that I was using transparent tape to keep in place. When you compare the location of the crack to the feet on the top of the screen, it appears that there is a design flaw that produced the crack. But none-the-less, I wanted to report that they will fix it with another appointment, which I'm about to make now. The theme here is that Apple has really exceeded my customer service expectations and as such, made me more loyal again as a customer. Thanks....just reporting out.
