The volume label is the "name" that the user gives to the drive. It appears along with the drive letter in the listing of drives in "My Computer." They ask for it as a double-check that the correct drive will be processed. If you haven't provided a volume label, it may be blank. When a brand new drive is formatted, the default volume name/label is often "New Volume." Select the drive in My Computer and keypress Alt-Enter, to bring up the "Properties" dialog. In Windows 2000, the Volume Label is the active item in the dialog when "Properties" is commanded. It is an editable text box, labelled "Label:". Other windows OS's should be similar.
