I have--or maybe make that HAD--a dual-boot Mac. I do nearly all my
work on the Mac side and only turn to the PC side when I use Dragon
Naturally Speaking [not available for Mac].
When I tried to get onto the Windows PC side last night, I couldn't.
The Windows partition of the computer had vanished, It couldn't be
seen either by holding down "option" as the computer booted up [the
standard way of switching from one partition to another] or on the
directory on the Mac side [which should show the Windows PC side and
which should give you access to any files created there].
My husband knows an awful lot about fixing Macs; he's used Windows
machines but he's never fixed them. He's inclined to let the PC side
remain in the alternate universe where it is now. He points out that
MacSpeech Dictate is built on a Dragon engine and is at least 99% as
good as Naturally Speaking--and it isn't all that expensive, either.
But I want to know: WHERE IS MY WINDOWS MACHINE--or my Windows
partition, to be strictly accurate? Can I get it back? [Among other
things, it had expensive software on it, legitimately acquired, of
course--and I might need to be compatible with a Windows machine some
time in the future.]
I'm also concerned that the PC side may have been affected by
malware. It had no anti-virus software on it; it was NEVER, EVER
allowed out on the Web, but the Mac was occasionally used on the Web.
I would like to know: where is my Windows machine, how can I get it
back, and is it likely to be hazardous to anyone's health [by
spreading viruses, becoming a bot, etc.]?
