I sometimes browse my hard drive from a browser, especially the 'invisible' system files, like the Samba manual or CUPS, instead of using command line. On my Mac I can browse my home folders/directory by using this location, file:///Users/betty/. I drag and drop the folder I want to view to the location bar in Firefox or SeaMonkey. Works like FTP. Result is simple HTML.

It's been a long time since I did this in Windows, but it's similar, using the same kind of location information that you'd see at the C: prompt--maybe.
