Jeff, I agree that RAID is fine for an enterprise data center where it is likely to be properly configured, understood and managed by storage professionals.
But RAID for home-use is almost always a bad idea. 1. It is not likely to be properly configured. 2. The home-user is not likely to understand how to manage it. 3. That user will have a false sense that the data is secure. 4. Because it adds complexity, the home-user is more likely to lose data unless they have professional data center RAID experience.
