It does not matter what we want, but what has been passed into law and what the law is.

That is not the way they define it, and unless you want to appear before the court and pay judgments such as the recently rendered one. I would not assume any of that.

Copying music from a buddy, who purchased the music, for personal use
shouldn't be illegal.  Nor should making a copy of music or movies that you
legally own.  Only copying someone else's work and passing it off as your
own creation should be illegal.

The recording labels and artists need to realize that they don't have a
right to an unlimited revenue stream.
