Sounds like the market has already "fixed" that problem. Retailers don't like Amex's fees, so they don't accept them. Amex can either adjust fees accordingly, or continue on business as usual. They've gone with option B. Retailers don't like paying these fees, my .org doesn't, but we know that the business we would lose by not having that option is far more than we would save by not accepting credit cards and not paying the fees. It's a simple business decision, not unlike paying rent to our building for office space.
