Actually, it's Wrong to hijack other people's topics. You should have started a thread of your own with this question.
Anyway, a quick correction. The tops of CD's aren't plastic, it's the actual foil on top. DVDs and BluRays have the foil snadwiched between plastic. I've used inkjet printable DVDs for the last few years, and am slowly switching to BluRay, but back when I used CDs I used Sharpies with no ill effects.
