Probably not, because he'll be using the disks that came with the
laptop and they usually include all that extra stuff by default. Not a
big deal; just remove the extras later.

But really, he now owns two doorstops. I wouldn't bother trying to get
an old Win98 laptop to work. For one, it won't even be able to websurf
any longer with all the new things like Java, Flash, and streaming
video. A new netbook will only run $300. Or a Win7 laptop for maybe
$550, which should last him for several years, and comes with a free
antivirus from MS (finally!).
