You are correct. Well, sort of. According to http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/resources.aspx?mkt=en-us&s=1#mainNav it runs on WinXP Sp2 or Sp3, Vista, And Win7. Nothing about a 64 bit limitation. I know my own install is Win7 64 bit and it works.
