Hmm ... there's obviously a market for the iPod Touch. With the Android eco-system being FOSS, you'd think a vendor would take advantage of all the apps (being developed for the phones) and come out with a cheaper iPod Touch competitor. Otherwise, I'm hoping for the Touch prices to come donw after Apple introduces iTablet (or whatever it is with that 10" screen). Basically, I think, there's a market for a small--smaller than a netbook--device for which the users aren't required to make a monthly payment. Maybe that's why the vendors aren't interested, as there's no income stream.
