We have gotten off the topic of the thread, which was initially
devices for helping with sleep by producing restful sounds. Someone
mentioned gunfire, and so here we are.

When I first moved out here to the country, I soon became acquainted
with gunfire in my vicinity and after perusing the county code, I
twice contacted the county sheriff seeking clarifications about what
is allowable. Twice I tried to find out, and twice my queries were
never answered. I took the resultant silence to either be my answer
or an expression on the part of the sheriff on the subject.

FWIW, when it isn't hunting season in the county, the local farmers
have to be on serious lookout for those rednecks who will shoot their
cows and horses since they can't go after deer. Seriously, this is a
big problem and the local "Crimesolver's" page on the county website
routinely seeks information about these frequent crimes. As mentioned
earlier, some broadband service out here could really help matters by
offering something to do other than shootin' or tearin' things up in
ATVs.

Anyway, and back to devices that generate sound to help with the
inducement of sleep, there are any number out there to be had. I have
never used one, so I cannot add any personal experience to the mix,
but stand by my suggestion about using an old TV.
