AOL's methods are secret. SpamAssassin's methods are public and probably typical. SA assigns points for various characteristics. No subject would get you points. A very short message would get you points, The entire message being a URL would get you points. They also look at lots of information in the header. They check where the email came from. They cross check the URL against the listed IP. Etc. Etc.
