Apple is genius...or maybe...who knows.

Within iPhone os 4.0, Apple unveiled a new mobile advertising platform
intended to make iPhone developers some revenue from within their apps and
Apple a lot of money. Steve Jobs is betting that ad revenue will shift from
search/web pages to app usage on mobile devices, this is a direct play
outside Apple's general revenue stream and a direct shot at Google.

FT article regarding the move.

*“The average user spends over 30 minutes using apps on their phone. If we
said we wanted to put an ad up every 3 minutes, that’d be 10 ads per device
per day — about the same as a TV show. We’re going to soon have 100m
devices. That’s a billion ad opportunities per day!”*

Steve jobs at the 4.0 unveiling today...he seems very excited about putting
an ad on your phone every 3 minutes. That sound good to you? We heard a
few years ago when google was announcing it's OS that the devices using
android would be heavily subsidized, that never happened, their phones run
the same or more than traditional phones, even other smart phones. Is this
the bus google missed? If you are getting an ad every three minutes should
the phone be free? Or at least *really* heavily subsidized as was suggested
by google? Maybe we will all have to get tivo's for our iPhones to skip all
the commercials.
