I did not say that I wanted to choke off advertising within applications. I actually cannot do anything about what tacks Apple takes. That said, it is true that I prefer not to be interrupted or distracted by advertising. Additionally, I do not like the term "apps." That, I would like to choke off, and I do my best along those lines. Seems as though all too many want to speak and write everything as if they are using Twitter. My feeling about advertising within "free" applications is that it may become so successful in terms of generating revenue that paid applications, particularly those of the smaller, less heavily coded variety, could become a rarity, leading fairly soon to almost nothing but "free" applications that contain incessant and often intrusive commercial content. That, in turn, could eventually result in applications, both large and small, that do cost money yet also contain ads. We have all seen the invasive creep of advertising in other aspects of our lives. As computer makers and developers of all stripes begin to consider the possibility that users of certain types of devices will put up with almost anything in order to feed their habit, they will begin pulling out all the stops. Steve Jobs may eventually be able to claim credit for ramping up the charge into a mobile computing/phone experience saturated in and perhaps even dominated by commercialism.
